In a significant legal development, the European justice system has sided with advocates of the controversial Super League, dealing a blow to UEFA. While the establishment of this competition brings joy to its founders, opponents still believe there is a possibility to prohibit this new league.

The UK government has pledged to enact legislation that «will prevent clubs from participating in disruptive competitions» like the Super League, according to a statement released by the Department for Culture, Media, and Sport on official platforms Thursday morning, as reported by Desporto AO Minuto.

«We take note of the European Union Court’s ruling on the European Super League. The attempt to create a separate competition was a decisive moment for English football and was universally condemned by fans, clubs, and the government», the statement begins.

«We took decisive action at the time by initiating the football governance review led by supporters, which called for the establishment of a new independent regulator for English football», the note continues before making a promise.

«We will soon introduce legislation that will make this project a reality and prevent clubs from joining similar dissident competitions in the future», it adds.

Six Premier League clubs are involved in the Super League, namely Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester United, Manchester City, and Tottenham.
