Real Madrid ends 2023 on Top with Dramatic victory over Alavés

In the final Liga match of the year, Real Madrid secured a hard-fought victory against Deportivo Alavés at Mendizorroza Stadium. Despite a balanced first half with no clear opportunities, the game intensified in the second half.

Real Madrid faced a setback when Nacho Fernandez received a red card in the 54th minute, reducing them to 10 players.

Despite being a man down, Real Madrid continued to attack, with notable efforts from Bellingham, Brahim Diaz, and Rodrygo.

The breakthrough came in injury time, as Lucas Vasquez scored with a header from a Toni Kroos corner (90+2’), securing a 1-0 win.

This victory, combined with Girona’s draw against Betis Sevilla, propelled Real Madrid to the top of the league with 45 points, tying with Girona but leading on goal difference.

Carlo Ancelotti’s team concludes the year on a high note with three consecutive victories.
