DRC: FARDC repels bloody attack by Mobondo militiamen in Mbankana

The village of Mbankana, located in the Maluku urban-rural district of Kinshasa, became the scene of violent clashes on the night of Saturday, August 9, to Sunday, August 10, 2025, between the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo (FARDC) and Mobondo militiamen. The attack, marked by extreme brutality, specifically targeted a local farm where several workers were taken hostage.

According to the official report released by the army, three Mobondo militiamen were neutralized during the operation. The FARDC also recovered two 12-gauge firearms and successfully freed several hostages, preventing a greater human tragedy.

The assailants’ barbarity left lasting scars: a farm worker was gravely injured, his foot severed with a machete. Thanks to the swift military intervention, he was evacuated and received medical care, which saved his life.

Praised for their rapid response, the Congolese army reiterated that the presence of Mobondo militiamen in the area remains a serious threat to the safety of the population. The FARDC reaffirmed their determination to hunt down these armed groups until they are completely dismantled.

These clashes serve as a stark reminder that peace in certain parts of the DRC remains fragile and that the vigilance of the defense forces is more essential than ever to protect civilians from the blind violence of armed groups.
