Burkina Faso: Faso Mêbo Holiday Camp, President Ibrahim Traoré praises committed young people who bring hope
A solemn ceremony was held in the courtyard of the Presidential Palace in Ouagadougou on Thursday, August 21, 2025, marking the closing of the very first Faso Mêbo Vacation Camp. The event was graced by the presence of the President of Faso, Captain Ibrahim Traoré, who personally led the raising of the national flag alongside the young campers gathered for the occasion.
For nearly two weeks, 408 Burkinabe children, hosted at Marien N’Gouabi High School, took part in an immersive experience centered on civic responsibility, patriotism, and solidarity. This initiative, launched by the Presidency of Faso, received unprecedented logistical, human, and financial support, reflecting the Head of State’s direct commitment to shaping future generations.
The campers, visibly enthusiastic, expressed their gratitude to President Ibrahim Traoré, the initiator of the project. Surrounded by his team and Colonel Ismaël Diaouari, patron of the class, the President praised the efforts of both participants and supervisors. He encouraged the youth to become the builders of a new, resilient, and united Burkina Faso.
“You are the hope of our nation. Even though our country is going through a difficult period, this war will end, and it will be you who take up the challenge of reconstruction,” declared the President, while stressing the importance of instilling essential values such as humility, brotherhood, and mutual respect.
The camp also served as a school of life where the young participants learned to share, live together, and contribute to community life. They carried out several practical and civic activities, including planting fruit trees, paving a 300 m² space, making public benches, and producing artistic works.
Commander Ahmed Zoodnoma Sakandé, the national coordinator of the initiative, explained that the camp provided an opportunity to teach military discipline, ecological awareness, appreciation of common heritage, and respect for institutions. The President of Faso concluded by urging the youth to share the lessons learned so as to inspire their peers to embrace this path of citizenship.
