Burkina Faso: Under the leadership of Minister Mahamadou Sana, the Burkinabe police are testing the use of drones to revolutionise road safety

Under the leadership of Security Minister Mahamadou Sana, the National Police of Burkina Faso launched a decisive test phase on Wednesday, 19 November 2025, in Ouagadougou: the use of drones to investigate traffic accidents. This technological innovation marks a turning point in law enforcement methods.

Whereas traditional procedures previously required more than an hour at the scene of an accident, drones now make it possible to complete the same investigations in just five to ten minutes.

This considerable time saving radically transforms post-accident management, significantly reducing traffic congestion and the risk of secondary accidents.

Following this successful trial, the Ministry of Security is considering rolling out this technology across the country in the near future.

This modernization of police equipment demonstrates the commitment of the authorities to optimising the efficiency of security services.

The integration of drones into the operational arsenal of the traffic police represents a major step forward for user safety and traffic flow.

It demonstrates a resolutely modern approach to road infrastructure management and confirms the position of Burkina Faso at the forefront of technological innovations in the service of public safety in Africa.
