Dorival Júnior resigns as São Paulo Coach to lead Brazil’s National Team

Dorival Júnior has resigned as the head coach of São Paulo to take charge of Brazil’s national team, as confirmed by the club in a statement on Sunday. The Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) turned to Dorival after failing to secure the services of Italian coach Carlo Ancelotti.

The CBF dismissed interim coach Fernando Diniz last week, seeking a permanent coach for the national team’s preparation for the 2026 World Cup.

Tite had previously stepped down as the full-time Brazil head coach following their quarter-final exit at the 2022 World Cup.

Dorival’s first match in charge will be a friendly against England at Wembley on March 23, followed by leading Brazil in the Copa America in the USA.

Dorival expressed gratitude to São Paulo for the opportunity, citing the realization of a personal dream.

The club’s president, Julio Casares, wished him success in his new challenge. Dorival had led Flamengo to the Copa Libertadores and the Brazilian Cup titles in 2022 before joining São Paulo.
