Football/ Samuel Eto’o suspended and fined by CAF for misconduct

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has banned Cameroon football federation president Samuel Eto’o for four matches and fined him $20,000 after finding him guilty of misconduct. The sanction stems from his behavior during Cameroon’s Africa Cup of Nations quarter-final defeat to hosts Morocco, where the former star was observed making an angry gesture toward match officials.

CAF President Patrice Motsepe was present during the incident, which occurred as Morocco secured a 2-0 victory.

The ruling follows a broader investigation launched by CAF into “unacceptable behaviour” during the tournament’s quarter-finals.

Eto’o’s federation, Fecafoot, has rejected the decision, calling the disciplinary process unfair and indicating plans to appeal.

Since his election in 2021, Eto’o’s presidency has been marred by controversy, including allegations of poor management and irregularities within Cameroonian football claims he has consistently denied while highlighting his achievements in the role.
