Driver in fatal crash involving boxer Anthony Joshua appears in court

The chauffeur driving a car carrying former heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua when it crashed, killing two of the boxer’s friends, has appeared before a magistrate’s court in Nigeria.

Adeniyi Kayode, 46, faces charges including death by dangerous driving following the collision on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway on December 29.

The crash claimed the lives of Joshua’s personal trainer, Latif Ayodele, and strength coach, Sina Ghami. Joshua was hospitalized with injuries but was discharged two days later.

Kayode’s case at the Sagamu Magistrates Court was adjourned until February 25 to allow prosecutors more time to prepare. He had previously been granted bail.

The boxer, who was traveling to visit family for New Year celebrations in his ancestral town of Sagamu at the time of the crash, later posted a heartfelt tribute to his late friends on social media, calling them “great men” and expressing his grief.

Kayode is charged with causing death by dangerous driving, reckless and negligent driving, and driving without a valid license.
