DRC: Félix Tshisekedi takes the oath of office on 20 January

On Tuesday, the Constitutional Court declared Felix Tshisekedi the winner of the presidential elections held on 20 December.

With a total of 13,058,962 votes cast, the presidential candidate took 73.47% of the vote, giving him the opportunity to serve a second term at the head of the Democratic Republic of Congo.

His inauguration is scheduled for 20 January, according to the timetable of the Independent National Electoral Commission.

A petition lodged by candidate Theodore Ngoy demanding the cancellation of the polls and their reorganisation by a new electoral commission was rejected outright by the Constitutional Court.

Ngoy had come last in the election. According to the court, his application was admissible, but unfounded.

Several observers have hailed the peaceful conduct of the elections, and Félix Tshisekedi continues to receive congratulations from several of his counterparts.

Some fifteen Heads of State congratulated the re-elected President as soon as the CENI had announced the provisional results.

The CENI has registered 26 candidates for the December 2023 presidential election. In 2006, there were 33 candidates
