Togo: 66 years of sovereignty, a nation united for peace and progress

On April 27, 2026, Togo vibrated to the rhythm of festivities marking the 66th anniversary of its accession to international sovereignty. Under the theme “Hospitality and Mediation, in the Service of an Active Diplomacy for Peace, Security, and Socio-Economic Progress of Nations,” this commemoration was an opportunity for the Togolese people to reaffirm their attachment to the values of unity, peace, and development. A powerful moment, charged with emotion and patriotic pride.

The choice of theme is no coincidence. It reflects the historic commitment of Togo to mediation and active diplomacy, pillars that have forged its identity on the international stage.

By emphasizing hospitality, Lomé reminds us of its role as a bridge between nations, a role that transcends borders and is part of a pan-African vision. This positioning strengthens the credibility of the country as a key actor in regional stability.

The celebrations were not limited to the capital. From Lomé to regional and prefectural capitals, every corner of the country participated in this national momentum.

Debates, cultural exhibitions, official ceremonies, and community activities marked the day, illustrating Togo’s diversity and richness.

This inclusive approach allowed every citizen to feel like an actor in this collective history, thus strengthening the sense of national belonging.

This 66th anniversary is also an opportunity to take stock of the progress made since independence, while charting perspectives for the future.

Togo, strengthened by its experience in mediation and its openness to the world, positions itself as a model of resilience and progress.

Challenges remain numerous, but the determination of the Togolese people to build a prosperous and peaceful nation is stronger than ever.
