Togo: H.E. Faure Gnassingbé discusses the strategic priorities of the partnership with Jean-Noël Barrot

The President of the Council, Faure Gnassingbé, granted an audience to the French Minister of Foreign Affairs, Jean-Noël Barrot, on a diplomatic mission in Lomé; a meeting that bears witness to the vitality of relations between the two countries and their shared desire to give them new momentum.

The French diplomat, on a tour of several West African nations, made a point of stopping in Lomé to exchange directly with the Togolese leader on the most urgent matters of bilateral cooperation.

This visit takes place in a context of reconfiguration of alliances in West Africa, where Togo plays a role as a mediator appreciated by all parties.

The two figures conducted an in-depth review of the key structural pillars of bilateral cooperation, with particular attention to economic and commercial partnership a key sector for the future of relations between France and Togo.

The discussions focused on ways to strengthen French investment in the Togolese economy, particularly in the areas of infrastructure, energy, telecommunications, and financial services, where French companies are already well established.

President Gnassingbé reaffirmed the determination of Togo to offer an attractive and secure framework for foreign investors, in compliance with the laws and international commitments of the country.

This high-level meeting between Lomé and Paris shows that Togo remains a privileged partner of France in the region, despite the geopolitical turbulence that has distanced some West African countries from their former colonial power.

Togo has managed to preserve a relationship of trust with Paris while diversifying its international partnerships; a balanced approach that French authorities commend and encourage.

Jean-Noël Barrot reaffirmed the commitment of France alongside Togo to support its efforts in economic development, political stability, and regional security.
