Burkina Faso/Peace effort: The Burkinabe employers reassures about the contribution of the private sector

The private sector has consistently been a cornerstone for state revenue in Burkina Faso, funding various projects. In the ongoing fight against terrorism in the country, private sector actors continue to reaffirm their commitment to supporting the government’s efforts.

On January 11, 2023, the Ministry of Economy issued a statement urging private enterprise leaders to contribute to the Patriotic Support Fund.

Specifically, they are called upon to redirect government-requested salary deductions to taxes, aiming to improve the living conditions of the Volunteer Defense Forces (VDP).

Burkina Faso’s business leaders, organized under the National Council of Burkinabe Employers (CNPB), declared their readiness to play a role in the anti-terrorism campaign during their traditional New Year’s greetings gathering.

Motivated by the call from the transitional president, Captain Ibrahim Traoré, the economic contributors expressed their willingness to respond positively.

They pledged to make efforts and sacrifices, consistent with their past contributions, to support the authorities and aid the fighters.

The CNPB has already contributed 200 million CFA francs to the war effort.

Specifically, the CNPB has provided a 100 million CFA franc contribution to the Patriotic Support Fund and an additional 100 million CFA francs to the widows and orphans of the Defense and Security Forces (FDS) and VDP, according to CNPB’s First Vice President, El Hadj Al-Hassane Siénou.

They stand ready to redouble efforts on both security and economic fronts, reassuring the public regarding the private sector’s commitment.
