Burkina Faso: RELANCE – ambitious targets for inclusive and sustainable growth
Burkina Faso has turned a decisive page in its economic history. Adopted by the Council of Ministers on January 29, 2026, the National Development Plan “RELANCE” 2026–2030 stands as the new framework that will guide public action for the next five years, in line with the Progressive Popular Revolution led by Captain Ibrahim Traoré.
With a colossal envelope of 36,190 billion CFA francs, this five-year plan does not merely line up figures: it charts the trajectory of a country that refuses dependency.
Nearly a third of the plan’s total cost will be financed by internal sovereign resources, an orientation that reflects a clear determination to free Burkina Faso from external tutelage and build a truly endogenous development.
The numerical targets give the measure of the ambition. The country aims to reduce the poverty rate from 42% to 35% and to triple its energy capacity—two levers that, combined, promise to transform the daily lives of Burkinabe families, between strengthened purchasing power and expanded access to electricity.
On governance, the corruption perception index is to rise from 41 to 46 points by 2030, a guarantee of a more upright administration in the service of citizens.
The human dimension is not left behind. Seventy-three new health centers and nine large-capacity regional hospitals will be built, while one thousand health specialists will be trained each year and Faso Pharma will be operationalized to build a high-performing national pharmaceutical industry.
So many projects that bring the state closer to villages and urban peripheries long neglected.
If its implementation lives up to its promises, the RELANCE Plan could transform the daily lives of Burkinabe: better electrified rural areas, hospitals within reach, a youth trained and employed in an industrialized economy rather than one exporting raw materials.
This is the wager of a sovereignty that is not limited to speeches, but measured by health centers built, jobs created, and the regained dignity of a people taking their destiny back into their own hands.
