Diplomacy/ Romuald Wadagni visits Togo to strengthen regional cooperation and security
The new president of Benin, Romuald Wadagni, made a working visit to Lomé on Wednesday, meeting the Togolese president, Faure Gnassingbé, as part of a regional tour to strengthen ties with neighboring countries.
The two leaders discussed boosting economic exchanges, cross-border infrastructure, and private investment.
They also addressed security issues amid instability in the Sahel, pledging closer intelligence sharing and stronger cooperation to secure their common border.
Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to integration within ECOWAS and welcomed the removal of visa requirements for African citizens traveling between their nations.
They stressed the need for a comprehensive approach to security, combining economic development, governance, and youth employment.
Wadagni congratulated Gnassingbé for his hospitality and extended an invitation for an official visit to Benin. The Togolese leader accepted the invitation.
