NBA/ Knicks stun Spurs 105-104, move one win from title

The New York Knicks are on the verge of ending a 53-year championship drought after a dramatic 105-104 victory over the San Antonio Spurs on Saturday, taking a 2-0 lead in the NBA Finals.

With 9.5 seconds left and the score tied, French phenom Victor Wembanyama misfired a pass into teammate Stephon Castle’s back.

Knicks guard Jalen Brunson pounced on the loose ball, was fouled, and sank the go-ahead free throw. Wembanyama’s 20-foot miss at the buzzer sealed New York’s 13th straight playoff win.

Wembanyama, who scored 22 of his 24 points after halftime, took the blame: “I messed up. I’ll use this to fuel us.”

Brunson, hero of Game 1 as well, credited team trust. The Knicks, who haven’t won since 1973, can clinch Monday at Madison Square Garden. US President Donald Trump, a New York native, plans to attend.
