Guinea’s National Team Faces Round of 16 amidst Bonus Payment absence controversy

Days before its round of 16 match against Equatorial Guinea, the Syli National is shaken by a significant controversy. An issue regarding unpaid qualification bonuses disrupts the calm within the Guinean squad. Despite finishing third in Group C behind Senegal and Cameroon, Guinea secured its spot in the round of 16 and will face Nzalang Nacional next Sunday.

However, the team, led by Kaba Diawara, is not preparing under the best circumstances.

According to information from Guinean media outlet 100% Foot, the Syli National players, scheduled to train on Thursday in Yamoussoukro, decided to boycott the training session due to the non-payment of the $10,000 qualification bonus per player.

The source explains that senior players in the Guinean national team, noticing the delay in payment, held a meeting at their hotel on Thursday afternoon, leading to the cancellation of the training session.

In an attempt to calm the situation, a representative from the ministry visited the team, promising to return to Conakry and bring the money back on Saturday before the match.

However, this promise did not suffice to appease the players, who believe that all conditions had already been clearly defined.

Furthermore, RMC Sport, which also investigated the matter, reports that a solution is about to be found between the different parties to restore calm within the Guinean national team.
