CAF conducts draw for preliminary rounds of 2025 Africa Cup of Nations Qualifiers
Nearly weeks after the conclusion of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, which saw the Ivory Coast’s Elephants emerge victorious as the host nation, attention has now shifted to the 35th edition of the continental competition.
Scheduled to take place in Morocco from July 23 to August 21, 2025, efforts are underway for the upcoming tournament.
On February 20, 2024, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) conducted the draw for the preliminary rounds of the qualifiers for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
Following the conclusion of the 2023 tournament, focus is now on the 35th edition of the African football extravaganza.
The official proceedings commenced on Tuesday, February 20, 2024, at the CAF headquarters in Cairo, where the draw for the preliminary rounds of the Morocco 2025 AFCON qualifiers took place.
The preliminary rounds for the Morocco 2025 AFCON qualifiers involve the teams with lower FIFA rankings.
A total of 8 teams will compete in two-legged matches from March 20 to 26, 2024. The teams involved are Somalia, Eswatini, Sao Tome, Chad, South Sudan, Liberia, Mauritius, and Djibouti.
The draw resulted in the following fixtures for the preliminary rounds:
- Somalia vs. Eswatini
- Sao Tome vs. South Sudan
- Chad vs. Mauritius
- Djibouti vs. Liberia
The four winning teams will join the other 44 teams for the subsequent qualification phases leading up to the 2025 AFCON.
