Spanish Football Federation assures Barcelona: youth talent management plan in place

FC Barcelona’s youth talent management has been a topic of concern, especially in light of past instances of overuse, such as with Pedri during the Olympics and Euro tournaments. However, recent developments have brought some reassurance to the club and its president, Joan Laporta.

In a recent article, it was highlighted that Barcelona’s La Masia academy continues to produce exceptional talents like Lamine Yamal, Fermín Lopez, and Pau Cubarsi.

Despite their potential, the club is wary of repeating past mistakes and is particularly concerned about the upcoming Euro and Olympic competitions.

The positive news comes from the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), which has indicated a proactive approach to managing players’ workload.

According to reports from SPORT, the RFEF is also focused on player safety and will not force players like Lamine and Cubarsi to participate in summer tournaments if they have been overused during the Euro.

This approach aims to avoid situations like Pedri’s in 2021, where excessive playing time led to physical strain and potential risks for the player’s long-term well-being.

With the RFEF’s commitment to evaluating player fitness post-Euro and making informed decisions about their participation in subsequent tournaments, Barcelona’s concerns about youth talent management are being addressed more effectively.

President Joan Laporta and the club can now have greater confidence in the collaborative efforts between Barcelona and the RFEF to ensure the optimal development and care of their young talents, providing a more sustainable approach to their progression in the world of football.
