Burkina-Faso: The President of the Transition of Burkina Faso, Captain Ibrahim TRAORE, supports an initiative to place more than 200 young graduates in internships with companies in the informal sector

Captain Ibrahim TRAORE, President of the Transition and Head of State of Burkina Faso, met with the country’s National Council for the Informal Economy on Monday 13 November 2023. Accompanied by the Minister for Youth, Boubakar SAVADOGO, the member of the council discussed with the Head of State the issue of the socio-professional integration of young people.

The Minister for Sport, Youth and Employment, Boubakar SAVADOGO, pointed out that the meeting with Burkina Faso’s National Council for the Informal Economy had focused on the possibility of placing young people in internships with companies in the informal sector.

He recalled the Head of State’s appeal last January, stressing the need to help young people rapidly acquire professional skills to facilitate their integration into the world of work.

The Minister noted that many young graduates have difficulty finding work, and this initiative aims to familiarise them with the country’s economic environment.

Out of a forecast of 200 young people to be placed in internship positions, the initiative has now received more than 3,000 applications for internships in companies in the informal sector.

According to Salifou NIKIEMA, President of Burkina Faso’s National Council for the informal Economy, this initiative will give many young graduates the opportunity to immerse themselves in the world of work in a number of companies in the informal sector.

He stressed that the Head of State had given his support to his institution and called on all stakeholders to work together to strengthen the national economy.
