Burkina Faso/03rd May: Media men and FDS Clash in Football tournament

As part of the World Press Freedom Day celebrated annually on May 3rd, media professionals and security forces gathered in Ouagadougou for a football tournament.

Six teams competed in this tournament, held in conjunction with the World Press Freedom Day celebration.

After a direct elimination competition, Globex Construction emerged as the champions, defeating the gendarmerie 1-0 in the final match.

The inclusion of Globex Construction, the United Nations system, and the security forces in the tournament highlighted that promoting press freedom is not solely the responsibility of media professionals, as stated by Sékou Diarra, the tournament’s organizing committee president.

According to Ben Laty Traoré, captain of Globex Construction, participating in this competition allowed them to interact with media professionals.

For those from a different field, it was a privilege to be part of commemorating World Press Freedom Day.

He expressed joy in sharing moments of camaraderie with media professionals and promoting press freedom.

This event not only promoted press freedom in Burkina Faso but also strengthened the bonds between Burkinabe media professionals, their fellow citizens, and the security forces.
