Tour Du Mali 2024: Burkinabe cycling star Mohamadi Ilboudo won the first stage from Bamako to Bougouni on Tuesday
Burkinabe cyclist Mohamadi Ilboudo claimed victory in the first stage of the Tour International du Mali on Tuesday, May 21, covering the 144km route from Bamako to Bougouni.
This win secured him the yellow jersey right from the start of the competition, as reported by the Burkinabe Cycling Federation.
«The competition level is high. It was really tough because of the intense heat. We worked together as a team. We don’t claim to be the strongest; it’s by God’s grace that we won. We’ll keep working hard for the upcoming stages», stated Daouda Soulama, captain of the Etalons cyclists.
Five Burkinabe riders are participating in this 10th edition of the Tour International du Mali, taking place from May 21 to 26.
The team includes cyclists Daouda Soulama, Mounir Vincent, Mohamadi Ilboudo, Wahabou Bouda, and Saturnin Yaméogo.
In total, 14 countries are competing in this event. The teams come from Burkina Faso, Niger, Benin, Côte d’Ivoire, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Senegal, South Africa, Mauritania, Guinea Conakry, Guinea Bissau, Morocco, Togo, Cape Verde, and the host country, Mali.
