Exploring diversity in Books: Highlights from Morocco’s International Book Fair
The 29th edition of the International Book and Publishing Fair of Morocco kicked off last week in Rabat, drawing book enthusiasts and intellectuals from across the country.
This cultural event showcases books on literature, science, history, art, and other subjects, presented by 743 exhibitors from 48 countries.
The guest of honor at this year’s fair is UNESCO, the educational and scientific organization of the United Nations.
According to the organizers, UNESCO will host conferences focusing on topics such as artificial intelligence and youth during the 10-day event.
Jordanian bookstore Al Dar Al Ahlia featured a war memoir by former Palestinian Minister of Culture Atef Abu Saif, detailing his experience during approximately three months of conflict in the Gaza Strip.
Abu Saif found himself trapped in Gaza in October when the ongoing war began.
His writings about his war experience have been published and translated into 11 languages, said Ahmad Abu Touq from Al Dar Al Ahlia bookstore.
Ahmad Abdelalim from Bayt Alhekma publishing house mentioned the diversity among the publishers at the fair, which benefits the readers.
Visitors can «find everything they’re looking for across cultures, whether European, Arab, Islamic, Chinese, or East Asian», Abdelalim stated.
