Mali: A new partnership with Turkey to find a solution to the energy crisis
On Tuesday, June 11, 2024, Mali and Turkey reached a partnership agreement to enhance the energy sector in Mali. The signing took place at the Ministry of Industry and Trade, involving “Énergie du Mali” (EDM-SA) and Turkish partners, particularly AKSA Enerji Üretim, a company specializing in electricity production.
The CEO of EDM, Abdoulaye Djibril Diallo, and AKSA Mali’s representative, Mr. Cüneyt Uygun, endorsed this new protocol in the presence of the Minister of Energy, Mrs. Bintou Camara, and her counterpart from the industry and trade ministry.
The minister emphasized the importance of adhering to the terms of this partnership agreement while urging the signatory parties to swiftly implement the accord.
Under this agreement, AKSA Enerji Üretim will regularly supply electricity to EDM-SA, amounting to approximately 100 MW, as per the terms of the agreement and subject to fuel availability.
It’s worth noting that Malian authorities have previously signed similar agreements with major powers such as the United Arab Emirates, China, and Russia.
These nations are committed to aiding Mali in constructing new solar plants to address the energy crisis the country has been facing for some time.
