Germany and Switzerland draw as Euro 2024 Group A concludes

Euro 2024 in Germany saw Group A conclude its final round of matches tonight. With Germany and Switzerland already through to the knockout stages, their encounter ended in a 1-1 draw.

Scotland, already eliminated, fell to Hungary, who now hold onto a slim hope of progressing.

Germany, needing only a draw to secure the top spot in the group, faced Switzerland in Frankfurt.

The Swiss took an early lead in the first half through Bologna’s Dan Ndoye, who capitalized on a mistake by Toni Kroos to score in the 28th minute.

Despite Germany’s efforts, they went into halftime trailing 1-0.

In the second half, Germany intensified their attacks but struggled to break down the Swiss defense.

It wasn’t until stoppage time that Niclas Fullkrug, coming off the bench, headed home an equalizer for Germany, securing a 1-1 draw and preserving their unbeaten record in the group stage.

Fullkrug’s goal dashed Germany’s hopes of joining the select group of host nations winning all their group stage matches at a Euro.

Switzerland’s draw means they remain unbeaten in their last nine final group stage matches at major tournaments, a streak dating back to Euro 2004.

They secured their place in the round of 16, while Germany also moves forward, setting the stage for the knockout rounds.
