2024 Copa America: The announcement of Messi after Argentina’s 2-0 win over Canada

Lionel Messi, who scored in Argentina’s 2-0 victory over Canada, hinted at his potential international retirement, leaving fans saddened despite Argentina’s progress to the Copa America 2024 final.

 

This win marks Argentina’s third consecutive final in major tournaments, following their Copa America win in 2021 and World Cup triumph in 2022.

 

Messi, leading a generation under the calm guidance of coach Lionel Scaloni, has now reached his fifth Copa America final, having previously competed in 2007, 2015, 2016, and 2021.

 

After the match, Messi stated to DS Sports Radio, “I am aware that these are my last battles and I am fully enjoying them,” reflecting on his illustrious career and hinting at his nearing retirement from international football
