Togo / Towards a strong and sustainable economy: President Faure Gnassingbé’s vision for local consumption

President Faure Gnassingbé has embarked on a policy aimed at fostering endogenous, inclusive, and sustainable development through various initiatives.

One key aspect of this strategy is the promotion of local consumption. On Wednesday, July 10, in Lomé, a series of efforts were initiated to establish a national strategy dedicated to this cause, supported by the Ministry of Commerce.

The goal of the national strategy is to significantly increase the consumption of local goods and services.

This approach is intended to stimulate robust, inclusive, and sustainable economic growth.

The project is structured around three main pillars: enhancing the competitiveness of local goods and services, improving the visibility and accessibility of local products, and establishing effective governance for local consumption.

Since 2020, October has been designated as “Consume Local” month in Togo.

This annual event promotes local products through various activities such as exhibitions, awareness workshops, and media campaigns.

The aim is to bolster national pride and raise awareness among Togolese about the importance of consuming domestically produced goods to support the local economy.

The implementation of this local consumption promotion policy is expected to yield several positive outcomes, including job creation, reduced dependence on imports, and sustainable development.

President Faure Gnassingbé’s policy to boost local consumption is a crucial component of Togo’s development strategy.

By enhancing the competitiveness of local goods and services, increasing their visibility and accessibility, and establishing effective governance, Togo is paving the way for more endogenous, inclusive, and sustainable development.
