Burkina Faso’s Prime Minister, Rimtalba Jean Emmanuel Ouédraogo, is expected in Moscow to represent the President of Faso, Captain Ibrahim Traoré, at the third Russia–Africa Summit. The meeting, scheduled for 28–29 October 2026, will be accompanied by an economic and humanitarian forum bringing together several African leaders around Russian President Vladimir Putin.
After Sochi in 2019 and St Petersburg in 2023, this gathering is intended to take stock of cooperation implemented between 2023 and 2026.
Participants are also due to define the broad outlines of a new partnership framework covering the 2027–2029 period, with the expected adoption of a joint declaration.
Discussions will focus on strategic issues for African countries, including trade, investment, food and energy security, and the sovereignty of states.
The forum will also address themes related to industry, technology transfers, digital transformation, artificial intelligence and the peaceful uses of nuclear energy.
For Burkina Faso, the challenge is to translate these discussions into concrete projects.
The delegation led by the head of government will emphasize local processing of resources, mastery of technology and youth training, which are considered essential levers for national development.
On the sidelines of the official proceedings, His Excellency Rimtalba Jean Emmanuel Ouédraogo is expected to hold several bilateral meetings aimed at deepening cooperation in the fields of security and development. These meetings are intended to identify new partnership opportunities for the benefit of Burkina Faso.
This participation is part of the continued rapprochement between Ouagadougou and Moscow, materialized by the signing on 12 February 2026 of the Agreement on the Foundations of Relations between the two countries. Burkina Faso thus intends to diversify its partnerships while respecting its sovereignty, equality between states and its national interests.
