The Burkinabe National Police intends to continue its transformation in order to better meet the population’s security needs. At a recent meeting, its leaders examined the difficulties encountered in carrying out their missions and proposed guidelines likely to improve the functioning of the services.
This clear-eyed approach is part of the dynamic set in motion since Divisional Police Commissioner Mahamadou Sana took charge of the Ministry of Security.
The assessment presented on October 2, 2026, as part of the government exhibition, bears witness to this.
Recruitment of 3,000 police officers, creation of specialized units, territorial coverage, acquisition of logistical resources, strengthening of urban security, and establishment of the Laabal brigade: the projects have multiplied.
According to the minister, the rate of control of the national territory rose from 37.88% in 2022 to 74.53% in July 2026, while helmet use rose from 8.7% to more than 95% in four years.
Mobility, the lifeblood of security, has not been forgotten. On February 2, 2026, the President of Faso, Captain Ibrahim Traoré, handed over 2,000 motorcycles to the National Police to reduce response times and make crime-prone areas accessible. Minister Sana saw this as a reinforcement of the “S 24/7” concept launched in 2025.
The working environment of police officers is also improving. On September 28, 2026, in Tenkodogo, the minister inaugurated the new regional directorate of the National Police for Nakambé, a building entirely financed by the population evidence of citizen support for the institution.
A field-oriented man, Mahamadou Sana multiplies his tours among the defense and security forces and the VDP: in Yiendéré, on the Ivorian border, in January 2025, then in Bam province in October 2025, he went to salute their bravery and relay the orientations of the Head of State.
The National Police meeting extends this logic of evaluation and improvement. The needs expressed, particularly in infrastructure, remind us that the work remains ongoing, but the direction is clear: a better-equipped police force, closer to citizens and more effective.
In praising the work accomplished by Minister Sana, one praises a vision—that of a Burkina Faso standing upright, determined to guarantee everyone the peace of mind they are entitled to expect from their state.
