Football/ England: Kieran Trippier announces international retirement at 33

At just 33 years old, Kieran Trippier has announced his retirement from international football with England. The seasoned defender, who earned 54 caps and scored one goal for the Three Lions, shared his decision on Thursday.

Reflecting on his career, Trippier expressed deep gratitude for the opportunities he had to represent his country.

“As a young boy from Bury, I never imagined I would play for England, let alone reach 54 caps. It has been one of the greatest honors of my life to represent my country in four major tournaments,” Trippier said in a heartfelt message posted on social media.

Trippier also took the time to thank England manager Gareth Southgate and his staff for their trust and support throughout his international career. “A huge thank you to Gareth and everyone who has worked with the England team over the years. I am grateful for the confidence they placed in me,” he wrote.

He fondly remembered the special moments he shared with his teammates, particularly reaching two European Championship finals and a World Cup semifinal. Despite stepping away, Trippier remains optimistic about England’s future, confident that the current squad has what it takes to secure a major tournament victory.

In his farewell, Trippier also expressed his appreciation for the unwavering support of England’s fans. “Thank you to all the English fans for your incredible support, traveling around the world to cheer us on, especially during the tough times,” he concluded.
