Culture/ Music: Tito Jackson, Original Jackson 5 Member, dies at 70

Tito Jackson, an original member of the legendary Jackson 5 and brother of Michael Jackson, has died at the age of 70, according to US media reports. An official cause of death has not yet been determined.

Tito performed alongside his brothers Jackie, Jermaine, Marlon, and Michael in the iconic group, which became famous for hits like “ABC,” “The Love You Save,” and “I Want You Back.” The Jackson 5 was formed in 1964 and went on to sell over 150 million records worldwide.

Tito, known for playing the guitar and providing backing vocals, remained an integral part of the family band throughout its history.

Jackson’s death was confirmed by his three sons—Taj, Taryll, and TJ Jackson—in an Instagram post. The trio, who were part of the R’n’B group 3T in the 1990s, expressed their shock and grief, calling their father “an incredible man who cared about everyone.”

In the days before his passing, Tito had been in Munich with his brothers for a performance and visited a memorial dedicated to Michael Jackson.

The Jacksons performed in Germany on 10 September and had recently played at festivals in the UK and Los Angeles.

The Jackson 5 was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1997, cementing their place in music history.

Tito Jackson’s death marks the loss of yet another key figure from one of the most influential pop families in history.
