Burkina Faso / Patriotic commitment: President Ibrahim Traoré calls for national unity

During the second edition of the National Days of Patriotic Commitment and Citizen Participation on October 2, President Ibrahim Traoré paid tribute to the sacrifices of the Burkinabe people.

He reaffirmed his dedication to rebuilding the nation, fostering social cohesion, and reigniting a sense of patriotism amid the challenges the country faces.

The significance of this date harkens back to Captain Thomas Sankara’s Political Orientation Speech, a cornerstone of independence and sovereignty.

President Traoré emphasized the critical need to combat betrayal, which he defined as collaboration with the nation’s enemies.

He condemned those who ally with foreign forces, undermining the stability of Burkina Faso. In his view, betrayal is one of the gravest offenses against a strong, sovereign state.

He urged every citizen to reject such actions and contribute to fortifying the nation.

Addressing the Defense Forces, Captain Traoré encouraged them to continue resisting imperialism and its local collaborators.

He highlighted the necessity of unity and vigilance in the fight for Burkina Faso’s dignity and sovereignty.

His message extended to the broader population, calling on citizens to actively engage in maintaining cleanliness and preserving their environment—acts he described as another form of patriotism.

Lastly, the President acknowledged the victims of the war against terrorism, reflecting on the injustice of this conflict that has been thrust upon the nation.

With the launch of the second edition of the National Days of Patriotic Commitment, he underscored the importance of unity and patriotism in the ongoing efforts to rebuild the nation.
