Burkina Faso: Balancing the fight against terrorism and development projects, the country is improving

Burkina Faso, under the leadership of President Ibrahim Traoré, is taking a pragmatic and determined approach to its economic development while waging an intense battle against terrorism. During his address on National Radio on October 5, 2024, Captain Traoré reaffirmed that these two elements, development and security, are inseparable for the country’s progress.

Amid multiple attempts at destabilization, the President reassured the people of Burkina Faso about the strength and morale of the troops engaged in the fight against terrorist groups. “These destabilizing situations do not affect the troops; rather, they give them even more courage to fight,” he stated. This boost in the morale of the armed forces demonstrates the country’s determination to preserve its territorial integrity and maintain peace to create favorable conditions for economic development.

President Traoré also spoke about the measures taken to protect the victims of terrorism and their families, a gesture that underscores national solidarity. The children of the victims are now cared for by the state as wards of the nation, and fallen fighters are honored as martyrs. This recognition highlights the state’s commitment to supporting grieving families while strengthening the link between national defense and economic resilience.

The President emphasized that Burkina Faso’s development continues despite security challenges. This pragmatic vision focuses on managing both security emergencies and economic needs simultaneously. The government’s ongoing support for the population, through both assistance and development projects, shows that Burkina Faso, under Captain Traoré’s leadership, is working toward a future where security and prosperity go hand in hand.
