Barcelona wonder kid Lamine Yamal claims 2024 Kopa Trophy

In a glittering ceremony at the Ballon d’Or gala, Barcelona’s 17-year-old sensation Lamine Yamal was crowned the world’s best under-21 player, continuing the Catalan club’s remarkable dominance of the Kopa Trophy.

Following in the footsteps of fellow La Masia graduates Pedri (2021) and Gavi (2022), Yamal’s triumph marks Barcelona’s third victory in this prestigious youth award.

Upon receiving the trophy from Dutch legend Ruud Gullit, the teenage prodigy paid tribute to his mentors and hometown, declaring, “Long live Barça and Capital 304!”

The 2023/24 season saw Yamal shatter records with an unprecedented 50 appearances under Xavi’s guidance, netting seven crucial goals. His impact extended beyond club football, playing a pivotal role in Spain’s Euro 2024 victory, highlighted by a spectacular goal against France that captured global attention.

The youngster has elevated his game even further in the current season, already contributing six goals and five assists.

His standout performances in Barcelona’s commanding victories over Bayern Munich (4-1) and Real Madrid (0-4) have cemented his status as one of football’s most exciting prospects.

Yamal joins an illustrious list of winners including Kylian Mbappé (2018), Matthijs de Ligt (2019), and Jude Bellingham (2023), with 2020’s award vacant due to the pandemic. His victory underscores Barcelona’s continued excellence in nurturing young talent through their famed academy system.
