Since November 5, 2024, Bamako has hosted the inaugural meeting of the Steering Committee of the National Committee for the Confederation of Sahel States (AES), marking a significant milestone in strengthening regional cooperation among AES member states.

This alliance was formed to foster stability and advance development within the Sahel region.

The meeting, chaired by Mali’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Abdoulaye Diop, alongside General Abdoulaye Maïga, has brought together key representatives from member state governments and security forces.

The primary mission of the Steering Committee is to set strategic priorities for AES, with a strong focus on defense, security, economic growth, and regional collaboration.

Additionally, the committee is committed to driving social and economic development through major projects that will directly benefit Sahelian populations and bolster community resilience.

Holding this inaugural meeting in Bamako underscores Mali’s dedication, alongside AES partners, to actively pursue a safer, more prosperous future for the Sahel.
