Togo: Towards better agricultural sector planning with the 5th census

The Togolese government is set to launch the 5th General Agricultural Census on November 30, reaffirming its dedication to revitalizing the agricultural sector. Announced by Minister of Agriculture Antoine Lekpa Gbegbeni, this comprehensive initiative aims to gather up-to-date data on the state of agriculture, a critical pillar of the nation’s economy.

Field agents will undergo targeted training from November 27 to 29 in their respective prefectures to ensure the process is thorough and accurate.

The updated information will serve as a foundation for designing policies and investments tailored to the needs of agricultural stakeholders.

This effort comes 12 years after the last census, making it an essential step toward addressing emerging challenges and opportunities in the sector.

To promote transparency, the list of selected agents is accessible on the website of the National Institute of Statistics and Economic and Demographic Studies (Inseed).

This operation is part of a broader strategy to modernize agriculture, enhance food security, and boost its contribution to the national economy.

By leveraging the insights from this census, the government aims to implement practical solutions that improve the livelihoods of farmers and solidify agriculture’s role as a driver of Togo’s sustainable development.
