Burkina Faso: Key decisions taken during the Council of Ministers meeting

During the Council of Ministers meeting held on Wednesday, February 5, 2025, chaired by President Ibrahim Traoré, several significant decisions were made across strategic sectors of the country.

In the realm of defense, a decree was adopted to establish criteria for classifying handguns as either civilian or military weapons.

This move addresses a legal gap by providing clear distinctions, ensuring proper regulation in line with Burkina Faso’s existing laws on firearms.

In the area of territorial administration and mobility, the Council approved a decree outlining the specific statutes for the Center for Motor Vehicle Control (CCVA).

This reform aims to equip the institution with regulatory frameworks tailored to its responsibilities.

Additionally, in the economic sector, a draft law on Agrarian and Land Reorganization (RAF) was reviewed. This revision seeks to enhance land management and optimize the use of land for projects of public interest.

On the diplomatic front, the Council endorsed two accreditation requests for new ambassadors to Burkina Faso.

These include Mr. Papa Diop, Ambassador of the Republic of Senegal, and Mr. Bambang Suharto, Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia.

These appointments reflect Burkina Faso’s commitment to strengthening diplomatic and cooperative ties with these partner nations.

Lastly, the Council adopted crucial measures in the fields of justice and digital transition.

An organic draft law on the organization and functioning of the Presidency of Faso was approved, solidifying its institutional status.

Additionally, a decree on the management of radio spectrum frequencies was revised to align with technological advancements and international standards.

These decisions underscore the government’s dedication to modernizing administration and improving governance across the country.
