Burkina Faso is going through a pivotal period in its history, marked by a quest for sovereignty and complete emancipation. Faced with this drive for independence, the imperialist powers seeing their interests threatened are redoubling their Machiavellian ingenuity. Having realized that their strategies to destabilize the country through terrorism had failed thanks to the heroic resilience of the Defense and Security Forces (FDS) and the Volunteers for the Defense of the Homeland (VDP) these shadowy forces are now playing their new card: information warfare.
The goal now is to provoke popular uprisings to overthrow the current authorities and plunge the country back into chaos. Unable to prevail on the military front, imperialism is making its way into the digital realm by devising sophisticated schemes of manipulation and disinformation.
Their most insidious weapons? Mass disinformation and the misuse of Artificial Intelligence (AI). Today, voice manipulations, doctored audio recordings, and synthetic “deepfake” videos are being fabricated from scratch.
This fraudulent content aims to make people believe in a supposed terrorist advance, to paint an apocalyptic picture in which armed groups control the territory, or to sow discord within the armed forces. Everything is orchestrated to create a sense of abandonment, instill fear and panic, and drive the people to revolt against their own leaders.
In the face of this hybrid threat, vigilance must be the watchword for every Burkinabe. We must not become unwitting accomplices of our own oppressors. Before sharing an audio recording, a shocking video, or an alarmist rumor on social media, let’s ask ourselves the right questions: Where does this information come from? Who benefits from this climate of panic?
Let us not give in to raw emotion or psychological manipulation. Let us get our information exclusively from official and verified sources.
The battle for freedom is not fought only on the front lines with weapons; it is also won in our minds through discernment and patriotic unity. Let us stand tall, united, and vigilant: Fatherland or death—we will prevail!
