FIFA suspends Emiliano Martinez for two matches after incident with Cameraman

Emiliano Martinez, Argentina’s star goalkeeper and key player in their 1-0 victory over Colombia in the 2024 Copa América final, has been handed a two-match suspension by FIFA.

The Aston Villa goalkeeper was penalized for an incident that occurred during the post-match celebrations, where he pushed a cameraman who was attempting to capture the moment.

The 32-year-old, known for his fiery personality, was celebrating with a teammate when the altercation occurred.

According to reports from AS, Martinez’s suspension is also linked to his controversial celebration, where he repeated the same obscene gesture that drew attention during the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

As a result of the ban, Martinez will miss Argentina’s upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Venezuela and Bolivia.

His absence creates an opportunity for Geronimo Rulli, the Olympique de Marseille goalkeeper, who is expected to step in during Martinez’s suspension.
