Togo advances Women’s empowerment with new rehabilitation center for street girls

In a global context marked by struggles for women’s emancipation and empowerment, Togo is taking decisive action. Last week, Kossiwa Zinsou-Klassou, Minister of Social Action, Solidarity, and Women’s Promotion, laid the foundation stone for Centre Éclore, a facility dedicated to the professional reintegration of street-connected girl
The launch of Centre Éclore in Agoè-Nyivé 2 represents a significant milestone in Togo’s social policy, driven by the unwavering commitment of President Faure Essozimna Gnassingbé.
This shelter, designed for vulnerable young women and their children, provides a concrete solution to one of society’s most pressing challenges: reintegration and dignity for marginalized populations.
A collaboration between the Belgian nonprofit Éclore ASBL and the Togolese government, the project reflects President Gnassingbé’s human-centered and inclusive leadership, which consistently prioritizes social protection and women’s empowerment.
Centre Éclore will offer:
- Shelter for up to 80 girls and their children
- Psychological support
- Access to education and vocational training
- Post-reintegration follow-up
This holistic approach embodies President Gnassingbé’s vision of people-centered development.
By creating safe spaces and opportunities for girls in extreme precarity, the government is building a more equitable and compassionate society.
The initiative reinforces Togo’s ongoing progress toward a fairer, stronger future—one where no one is left behind. Through such actions, the nation demonstrates that empowering women is not just policy, but a pathway to national transformation.
