Burkina Faso: Council of ministers meeting chaired by President Traoré marks new milestones for National unity

Under the leadership of His Excellency Captain Ibrahim Traoré, the Council of Ministers convened on Thursday, April 24, advancing key initiatives to strengthen national cohesion, collective memory, and social inclusion.

Honoring a revolutionary legacy: The Thomas Sankara mausoleum

A landmark decision was the approval of the official inauguration of the Thomas Sankara and His 12 Companions Mausoleum, scheduled for May 17, 2025, under the high patronage of the President of Burkina Faso.

This date holds deep historical significance. As explained by the Minister of Communication, Culture, Arts, and Tourism, Mr. Pingdwendé Gilbert Ouédraogo, May 17, 1983, marked the beginning of the Democratic and Popular Revolution—the day Thomas Sankara, then Prime Minister of the CSP, was arrested.

The mausoleum will serve not only as a memorial but also as a vehicle for preserving the political legacy of the revolutionary leader.

Strengthening social protection: 158 children granted “Ward of the State” Status

In a move reinforcing social solidarity, the Ministry of Justice secured the adoption of a decree granting “Pupille de la Nation” (Ward of the State) status to 158 children.

These minors are offspring of fallen or injured members of the Defense and Security Forces, as well as public servants who sacrificed their lives in the line of duty while securing the nation.

“This measure acknowledges their sacrifices and ensures these children receive enhanced protection and support,” emphasized Minister Edasso Rodrigue Bayala.

Burkina Faso’s growing appeal: 72 New citizens from 16 Countries

The Council also ratified a decree granting Burkinabe citizenship to 72 individuals from 16 different nations—marking the third wave of naturalizations in less than six months.

According to Minister Bayala, this trend underscores Burkina Faso’s rising attractiveness as a destination for those seeking stability, sovereignty, and Pan-African solidarity.

A Nation that inspires

These decisions reflect a Burkina Faso that honors its past while building a resilient future. From preserving revolutionary ideals to protecting the families of national heroes and welcoming new citizens, the country continues to stand as a beacon of dignity, self-determination, and hope in the region.

With each step, the Land of Honest People proves that its greatest strength lies in its people—and their unshakable belief in a sovereign, united future.
