Rwanda expands sports sponsorship empire with Atlético Madrid deal

Kigali continues its strategic global branding push as “Visit Rwanda” secures a major partnership with Spanish giants Atlético Madrid. The three-year agreement, running until June 2028, marks Rwanda’s fourth high-profile football sponsorship following deals with PSG, Arsenal and Bayern Munich.

Visibility package:
Starting next season, the East African nation’s tourism brand will feature on:

  • Training/warm-up kits (men’s first team)
  • Match jerseys’ back (both men’s and women’s teams)
  • Digital platforms and Riyadh Air Metropolitan Stadium media boards
  • Fan engagement events

The partnership extends beyond conventional branding, positioning Rwanda as Atlético’s:
✓ Official pre-season training destination
✓ Preferred tourism partner
✓ Exclusive coffee supplier

This move reinforces Rwanda’s innovative “sports diplomacy” strategy that has seen tourism revenues grow 34% since 2018. With Madrid’s global fanbase exceeding 400 million, Kigali gains direct access to football’s most valuable demographics.
