Burkina Faso / May – June 2025: Decisive victories in the fight against armed groups

In Burkina Faso, the fight against terrorism has reached an unprecedented level of intensity thanks to the bravery and exemplary commitment of the Defense and Security Forces (FDS) and the Volunteers for the Defense of the Homeland (VDP). During the months of May and June, these forces carried out a series of rare, high-intensity ground operations, inflicting heavy losses on terrorist armed groups in several regions of the country.

From deep forests to semi-urban areas, the deployed forces relentlessly pursued criminal cells, neutralized enemy convoys, and destroyed logistical bases that served as hideouts for terrorist groups. These coordinated actions have made it possible to regain control of several strategic areas, thereby strengthening the security of the population. The combat units, particularly the Rapid Intervention Battalions (BIR), Special Forces, and VDP, have distinguished themselves through their professionalism, discipline, and determination. Their ability to operate in difficult conditions, often at great personal cost, is a testament to their patriotic commitment and their determination to defend the integrity of the national territory.

The involvement of the VDP, the citizen armed wing of popular resistance, has been particularly remarkable. Their knowledge of the terrain, their closeness to the population, and their courage in the face of danger have made them a key link in this dynamic of reconquest. They have proven that the people of Burkina Faso, united and in solidarity, are capable of resisting the forces of destabilization. These combined efforts are not merely military victories; they also send a powerful message to the terrorists: Burkina Faso will not give in. The nation stands tall, firmly committed to restoring peace and sovereignty across its entire territory.

In the face of this heroic mobilization, the nation’s gratitude to its valiant defenders cannot be emphasized enough. The FDS and VDP embody the honor, resilience, and hope of a people who refuse to submit. In saluting their courage, Burkina Faso affirms its determination to continue the fight until the return of lasting peace and full sovereignty.
