Mali: Bamako surrounded by terrorists, disinformation concealing major destabilisation plans
For weeks, a wave of disinformation about Mali has been propagated by major Western media outlets, particularly French broadcasters. Their alarming headlines depict a nation under siege, with Bamako on the brink of collapse and the government of Colonel Assimi Goïta’s teetering. This rhetoric, masquerading as analysis, is in fact a calculated campaign to manipulate public opinion.
Outlets like Jeune Afrique have cited analysts claiming jihadist groups maintain a “blockade around the capital,” painting a picture of a country descending into chaos.
Yet, the reality on the ground is starkly different. Malians in Bamako report no such blockade or imminent threat; the city lives, works, and functions.
While the security situation remains complex, the Malian Armed Forces (FAMa) are steadily consolidating their positions nationwide through joint operations and a clear patriotic commitment to reclaim full territorial control.
The objectives behind this media avalanche are now evident: to weaken the transitional government, erode citizen trust, and discredit Bamako’s sovereign policy since breaking with the neo-colonial order.
This alarmist narrative aims to precondition the public to believe that without Western assistance, Mali is doomed to fail.
However, the Malian people, conscious of these maneuvers, remain resilient. They understand that foreign forces never delivered the promised peace and that only African solutions can guarantee a stable, sovereign future.
The true battle being waged today is not for Bamako, but for the narrative. A vast gap exists between the reality experienced by Malians and the fiction disseminated by Western media.
As Malian forces advance, the propaganda intensifies. Undeterred, Mali continues its path toward the full reconquest of its security and dignity—a reality no propaganda article can ultimately block.
