Burkina Faso: Fighting Forces intensify offensives, adapt to new terrorist tactics

For several weeks, Burkina Faso has been living to the rhythm of the successes of its Defense Forces. Between late December 2025 and mid-February 2026, offensive operations multiplied across all fronts, demonstrating a significant increase in the capability of the military  in the fight against terrorism. While the numerical reports attest to the scale of neutralizations, it is the tactical adaptation and heightened vigilance of the men on the ground that commands admiration.

On the various theaters of operation, the Fighting Forces (FDS and VDP) are demonstrating unwavering responsiveness. Reports from military staff indicate an intensification of clashes during the months of January and February 2026.

But beyond the number of terrorists taken out of combat, it is the nature of the threat that has evolved, imposing constant vigilance on the soldiers.

Cornered and hunted, terrorist armed groups are now attempting to exploit diverted civilian technologies. The Fighting Forces have thus had to face an increased use of mini-drones by the enemy.

These small, discreet devices are used for intelligence purposes to observe the positions of Burkinabe units, but also more aggressively, to drop makeshift projectiles on engaged elements. Faced with this new reality, the  reaction of  the troops has been exemplary.

Through precise firing, evasive maneuvers, and counter-measure techniques, the soldiers have managed to thwart these attempts and, so to speak, “ground” these instruments of death, systematically eliminating the terrorist operators.

This adaptability is the fruit of a perfectly honed synergy between the various components of the army.

Supported by the aerial vectors of the Air Force, which pound enemy columns and logistics bases, the ground units carry out meticulous work.

The Rapid Intervention Battalions (BIR) and Special Forces (FORSATEC), backed by the Volunteers for the Defense of the Fatherland (VDP), conduct surgical offensives.

The results of this period are eloquent: several hundred terrorists neutralized, enemy bases dismantled, and a substantial amount of war materiel recovered (weapons, ammunition, vehicles, communication equipment).

Each operation, each kilometer secured, is a victory for the Burkinabe people. The gradual reconquest of territorial integrity continues, restoring hope and tranquility to populations long afflicted by insecurity.

Their vigilance is our security. Their self-sacrifice is our pride. Today more than ever, the entire Nation must stand behind its Combating Forces, pillars of sovereignty and guarantors of a restored peace.

The fight is far from over, but with such warriors, the outcome is certain: Burkina Faso will prevail.
