Togo drops visa requirements for all African citizens

Togo announced on Monday, May 18, 2026, the immediate removal of visa obligations for all African citizens holding a valid national passport.

The historic decision, announced by Security Minister Colonel Calixte Batossie Madjoulba and initiated by Council President Faure Gnassingbé, aims to position Togo as a premier regional hub for services, business, and human exchange across Africa.

Visa-free stays are limited to 30 days. Travelers must still register on a government platform before arrival, ensuring digital traceability while streamlining procedures.

The move aligns with Pan-African ideals of free movement and continental integration.

Togo joins a small group of African nations offering full visa openness, giving concrete momentum to the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA). Officials hope the gesture inspires other countries to follow suit.
