Burkina Faso: Parliament approves a landmark plan for full control over mineral resources
The march of Burkina Faso toward total control of its resources has reached a historic milestone. At the Legislative Assembly of the People, the unanimous validation of a loan exceeding 33 billion FCFA for the Boungou and Wahgnion mines marks a pivotal moment. This vote materializes the inflexible will to break with the structures of the past an era when subsoil wealth primarily benefited private interests and external intermediaries rather than the nation’s development.
Gold extraction must no longer be synonymous with economic dispossession. By entrusting direct management of these sites to the Burkina Faso Mining Participation Company (SOPAMIB), the state reaffirms its mission as guardian of the common good.
The Boungou and Wahgnion mines extract over seven tonnes of gold annually from the nourishing earth.
Yet a financial anomaly hampered this performance. Astronomical sums evaporated each month through equipment rental and excessive subcontracting, costing over three billion FCFA per month for the Wahgnion site alone.
Reducing this dependency through the acquisition of own equipment, pit dewatering, and direct connection to the SONABEL national power grid is part of a profound refoundation dynamic.
It is the choice of resolutely endogenous development. Every machine purchased, every kilometer of cable deployed consolidates the nation’s decision-making autonomy against external fluctuations.
This initial financing is part of an overall strategy of one hundred billion FCFA, transforming these deposits into levers of collective dignity.
The fruits of the earth’s labor must now irrigate social projects, infrastructure, and territorial protection.
This institutional victory demands constant vigilance and commitment to the ideals of the revolution and refoundation.
Citizen vigilance remains the indispensable shield to ensure these resources serve the population’s supreme interest.
Grassroots support for the economic liberation process charts the path toward a future of genuine independence. United and determined, Burkinabe citizens advance toward the sovereign reconquest of their destiny.
