Morocco edges closer to World Cup Qualification Despite Regragui’s reservations

The Atlas Lions secured a 2-0 victory over Tanzania in Oujda, pushing them to 15 points in Group E and nearly guaranteeing their spot in the 2026 World Cup. Yet coach Walid Regragui remains cautiously critical of his team’s March performances.

While acknowledging the dominant statistics—including 80% possession against Tanzania—Regragui stressed the need for sharper execution. “Six points this window is what matters,” he told Arryadia, referencing narrow wins against Niger (2-1) and Tanzania, where goals came only in the second half.

The results extend Morocco’s impressive streaks:

  • 5 consecutive World Cup qualifying wins
  • 6 straight AFCON qualifying victories

Despite the numbers, Regragui’s tempered reaction reveals higher ambitions. With qualification all but secured, Morocco’s focus now shifts to refining their game ahead of the global stage—where efficiency, not just dominance, will define their success.
