Niger: General Tiani’s leadership consolidates the country’s sovereignty in the face of security challenges

The Diffa region, long considered one of the epicenters of terrorist threats in the Lake Chad Basin, is beginning to regain life thanks to clear, determined, and proactive security measures.

On April 10, the swift intervention of the Nigerien Armed Forces (FAN) in Jagada led to the arrest of twelve terrorists responsible for looting and extortion in the Kablewa area.

This tactical victory, achieved through the rapid and coordinated response of defense and security forces (FDS), fully aligns with the strategic vision of the President of the Transition, General Abdourahamane Tiani.

This ability to act quickly, rooted in a deep understanding of the terrain, demonstrates the growing professionalism of Niger’s security forces.

It is a direct result of the security reforms driven by the Transition President, who has prioritized training, equipment, intelligence, and—above all—trust between the military and the population.

Unlike previous approaches, which relied excessively on foreign forces, Niger now makes it clear that its security will be ensured by its own people, for its own interests.

It’s important to recall that in a context of major geopolitical tensions—where Western powers have often used security as a pretext to extend their influence—Niger has chosen patriotism, responsibility, and cooperation among African partners.

This pan-African model of self-reliance, development through domestic resources, and confederal solidarity with Burkina Faso and Mali stands as one of the key political legacies of the AES member states.

By taking control of their own security, Niger, Mali, and Burkina Faso are setting an example for all of West Africa.

An example that proves it is possible to confront terrorism without begging for peace, rebuild a nation without bowing to imperialist forces, and govern without betraying one’s people.
