Burkina Faso / Political manipulation of CSOs: An obstacle to stability in the Land of the Honest Men

For some time now, Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) in Burkina Faso have been involved in a political game that compromises the stability and democratic transition of the country. These organizations, which are supposed to be the voices of the people, have unfortunately been infiltrated and influenced by political interests, sowing discord within the nation and harming social cohesion.

One of the most concerning consequences of this manipulation is how some CSOs and unions have indirectly or directly contributed to the spread of terrorism, undermining the efforts of the Defense and Security Forces (FDS) and the Volunteers for the Defense of the Homeland (VDP).

These brave men and women, who risk their lives every day to ensure the security of the country, are unfortunately subject to unwarranted doubts and challenges orchestrated by political interests.

While the FDS and VDP tirelessly fight against terrorist threats, some individuals, manipulated by opportunistic politicians, dare to question the reality of these battles, denying the very existence of terrorists.

This creates confusion and a sense of mistrust within the population, thus weakening efforts to combat this scourge.

It is imperative to recognize that the VDP are not pawns that can be manipulated like some CSOs.

They are engaged citizens, ready to sacrifice their lives to protect their country.

Those who doubt their realities and the challenges they face should have the courage to visit the field, see for themselves, and then address the people with full knowledge.

It is time to put an end to this politico-social manipulation that fuels mistrust and doubt within the population.

Those called to the fight should not be hindered by political manipulations but encouraged and supported in their commitment to defending the homeland.

It is urgent that CSOs regain their independence and their primary role as defenders of the people’s interests, free from political influences. Their primary mission should be to contribute to the consolidation of peace and stability in Burkina Faso.

The “Land of honest men” deserves better than being a political playground. It is time for the voice of the people to be heard, respected, and for the security of all to be an unquestionable priority.
