Togo’s mediation efforts in the great lakes Region gain UN support

In his ongoing commitment to African peace and stability, Togolese President Faure Essozimna Gnassingbé continues his tireless mediation efforts in the Great Lakes region. On Tuesday, June 3, he hosted Bintou Keita, the UN Secretary-General’s Special Representative for the Democratic Republic of Congo and head of MONUSCO, in Lomé.

This high-level meeting reflects Togo’s sustained diplomatic push to ease tensions in this strategically vital part of Africa.

The discussions between President Gnassingbé and the MONUSCO chief yielded a comprehensive security assessment of the DRC and surrounding region.

They examined current mediation efforts and explored concrete initiatives for achieving lasting political solutions to ongoing conflicts.

Keita commended Togo’s diplomatic initiatives, particularly praising Lomé’s inclusive approach to conflict resolution.

Since his appointment as African Union Mediator, President Gnassingbé has distinguished himself through proactive yet discreet diplomacy, engaging extensively with all stakeholders.

His balanced, dialogue-oriented approach has strengthened regional trust while focusing international attention on critical peace and security challenges in the Great Lakes.
